Jn-Harlequin

Jn-Harlequin now has a main page for my small, but growing portfolio.

I spent over 10 hours setting up this page. Normally I am a lot faster at producing web work, but I seemed to have gotten the web version of writers block. Regardless, I now have an up to date website with content.

Goals: I am looking at making constant changes to the website to allow a comfortable feeling for visitors and also follow the recent trend of websites. Many pages rely on large image backgrounds for the scenery and then adding the content on top. Below are some links of some interesting styles of what I find to be creative and fit this area:

liam-galvin - This is a Wordpress layout which seems to be the new style for websites. A lot of new designers/developers are using CMS (Content Management Systems) for websites for easier management of their code and files. Wordpress happens to be a CMS with blogging on the side, so the fad for this is huge.

nouincolor - Great example of a background with text/image design. It also incorporates jQuery which is an open source add on to JavaScript. The interesting thing about jQuery is that Apple products such as the iPhone/iTouch and iPad can run jQuery, but not flash, so the use of jQuery is increasing.

Problems: The contact form will require a security code shortly as I am getting email spam from spam bots. Multiple forums I used to host on my server had bot spam issues, but it's easy to block them from posting using the admin control panel. Fixing the php form may take some time as I am still new at php scripts.

3D Illusion

This project gives the illusion of 3D using 2D images. I collected assets from the game Minecraft and created a 10 second video. This is the first motion graphics project that I felt happy with as it allowed us to be creative.

Enjoy!

Print Magazine Exercise

Here is an exercise which was given to teach to set up margins for magazine pages. I collected online reviews for the online games Minecraft and Rift. Here are the finished pages.

Enjoy!

Blue Screen: Ninja's

Another motion graphic project where I used keying to remove a blue screen around 2 ninja's having a sword fight. I added a background and kept it simple.

Enjoy!

Harlequin Design Brochure

A small project to create a 2 sided brochure to showcase and represent ourselves and the work that we have created. Everything shown on the brochure had to be work created by only the student. As well, my brochure was only 1 sided as I had enough content to fill the front portion. This brochure also folded into a single square on a 4x4 grid.

Solo Editing

Here is an edit from the online mmo Darkfall. I spent in total 3 hours editing the photo and applying effects. Currently this is version 1.1.

Sphinx Ish is the characters name.

A neat little feature I found was using Adobe Fireworks with it's saving PNG files with 32 colour vs Adobe Photoshops offered 24 colour.

Enjoy!

The Finished Edit

Original Captured Screen Shot

Blue/Green Screen

An in class lab using Adobe After Effects introduced blue/green screen footage. The editing of the footage was interesting as it was mainly just changing the saturation and colours to match the choice of background.

Enjoy!

Star Wars and Light Sabers

Here is another recent project using Adobe After Effects. Like my last post, I took a sword and changed it into a light saber. This project used the same process to turn the green/red sticks in the footage and create light sabers. I only did two of the single light sabers. The middle one which is the colour red was not completed.

Enjoy!

After Effects - Compositing

A recent Motion Graphics subject in my program has opened my eyes to Adobe After Effects. Here is some very short footage (1 second in length) from the movie Braveheart. The lab involved tracking a sword, changing its colours and applying blurs with a hue/saturation change to create a light saber effect on top of it.

Re-Branding of a Company

Just a small project to re design a companies branding. From the 4 options provided I chose Oliver Jewelery - A cash for gold scam on television. I've spent 2 hours on the logo and 2 hours on a small write about the new brand for the company.

Here is a small logo I created. I have a black, white, gray scale and the final logo in colour presented on a white and black background.

And here are the colours used:

dce1db - silver
fbbb1b - light gold

e68e10 - dark gold
000000 - Black
ffffff - white

I chose these colours specifically because they relate to the word "jewelry". Also they work well together when mixed in the above logo.

I also had to choose some brand personalities for the new style of the company. I decided to use the words: comfortable, easy, business, selling.

Enjoy!

Harlequin Design

Harlequin Design will be launching a new brand including a business card, logo and new website. This project currently has a first version and is planning to have the second completed before March 2011.

Harlequin Design - v1.0

On a side note, I am looking into designing a website with a few contacts of mine. The purpose of this project is to display and show off all our portfolios under one domain. The finished project will further our skills in using teamwork skills and project management as we will have to create a schedule to follow and when and where to work on certain parts of the project.

Updates to come soon.

3D Chess

I decided to create some 3D chess pieces for a final project using 3Ds Max. I put them to use by creating a small little battle between the two. Below is an image of the two pieces looking at each other.

Enjoy!

Cerial box

A small tutorial in creating an animated object that acts like a living creature. This Cerial box moved from the left of the screen to the right. At the end it stops in the middle and pants while looking around by twisting to the right and left.

Enjoy!

3D Crane

Here are two cranes I created in 3ds max for a project. One was created using a in class tutorial and the other was part of the independent project.

Enjoy!

3D Logo - Predator

Using 3ds Max, I created a 3D version of my illustrator logo from first semester. It isn't as detailed as I wanted it to be. The reason is because the imported vector file I imported had a couple errors and caused the finished logo to look a little incomplete. Regardless, here is the original illustrator file and the finished logo.

Enjoy!

The Toy Company - Final

Here is the final version of The Toy Company flash site. I spent 6 hours on making sure the scripting was working correctly and designing the graphics for the flash website. Please follow the link below to see a viewing of the site.
